Honestly speaking, I have learned a lot of new thing in this class. On the 3rd week, We knew about a new method about using blog to enhance our hand writing. Although it is a good method, it helps limited. Why? Although teacher Sally gave the response after we post a new article, we still don’t know our article’s error. For instance, grammar, tense, vocabulary. No one can do me a favor to correct my articles error. It is really a shame. So I strongly recommend that teacher give a weekly composition to the classmates and correct their article after they finish.
As for dictionary, I found that it really important to use Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary. Because it is a totally English dictionary. Its examples and explanations are totally English. It can help you think in English instead of Chinese. So you can make a great progress in English.
On the 5th week we know more tools. 1. collocation 2. Concordancer .We use Concordancer to search for a specific word or phrase they want to find. We can see how it has been used by many different people, and can study its meaning and grammar. The drawback about the system is the person who developed the system didn’t update their database very often. So we sometimes need to google some new word sentence because of the lacking of database.
By collocation we know how words can be used together, for example which prepositions are used with particular verbs, or which verbs and nouns are used together. It is very important when we have a writing.
On the 7th week we knew a new website called Randall's Cyber Listening Lab . it is a website that offer users many listening quiz to improve listening. In my opinion , I think the quizs in this website are not so hard except the hard quizs. I think this website is very useful to us.
On the 8th week I heard a important speech from Steve Jobs' 2005 Standford commencement . I think he is really good at giving a speech. No wonder he can deliver his product to people easily. He is a great person and successful enterpriser. But he did many bad thing to our planet. He created so many trash. For instance IPHONE,IPOD. Although Steve Jobs products are great and useful, it make people be more greedy and luxurious. His products are source-wasting. Our earth’s source got wasted quite soon because of new IPHONES appearance. I respect Steve Jobs but I don’t want to be him.
On the 9th week I browsed a website called ESL Pod.com. Truth be told, The audios are quite difficult to me. So I didn’t spend a lot of time on this website.
On 11/28 teacher introduced us a good program called My ET. The only drawback which bothers me a lot is its sensitivity of sound-receiving. It really drives me nuts. Although it has a great and strong function, It is not a free program. Many function of the program need our money to release. So I decide to give up this program no matter how good it is. If only it still charges for service, I won’t use it. HA!! HA!!! SONG!
On 12/12 .There is a group (I forgot the name of team) introduced MIT opencourse website. Honestly speaking, The team members did a bad in giving speech. Their pronunciationis is so poor that I don’t know what they try to tell us. It’s really a shame to have a great subject to share with us. As for MIT course, I think that it is a good website for learning. Because it’s totally free. But there is a deadly drawback. If you don’t have a good English ability, don’t give it a try to use this website to learn. Why? For instance there are many math subjects on line for us. But its language is English. Are you sure you are good enough to listen the class in English. There are a lot definitions in math subjects. You can miss one of them at all. Every definition will affect your learning result. It’s really challenging to learn math in English for person who has a poor english.
